NIKIA JOHNSON Obituary

Our dearly beloved Nikia L. Johnson was born August 3, 1984, in Miami, Florida to the proud
parents of Ms. Gwendolyn Harris and Mr. Samuel T. Johnson. She was raised in the small town
of Coconut Grove where she received her early childhood education at Frances S. Tucker
Elementary School. Nikia continued her education at Ponce De Leon Middle and graduated
from Coral Gables Senior High School in 2003.
At a young age, Nikia was introduced to Christ being baptized at Church of God of Christ in
Coconut Grove. Later, she became a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church where she
served on the Youth Ministry in many capacities. Her services to God included worship through
liturgical dance, singing in the youth choir and assisting the congregation through ushering
services. Nikia continued her journey in Christ through membership at Freedom Temple of
Miami, Inc under the leadership of Reverend Doctor Ricardo Symonette. Her knowledge of
Jesus Christ as her Savior and his unconditional love was solidified through her involvement in
these activities.
“Tweety” as she was affectionally known became employed soon after graduating from High
School. While maintaining her most important full-time role as a young single parent, she
attended classes at Miami Dade College where she studied diligently to obtain her Associated
of Arts degree (A.A) focusing on Interior Design. God blessed Nikia with her first-born daughter,
Dei 'Kiyra in 2002. As a loving mother, Nikia often referred to Dei 'Kiyra as her “blessing.” She
adored all her children, Henry, Haven, Dylan, and Dei 'Kiyra. Through her battles, these little
gifts from God were her constant reminder to keep going. Although every day was not easy, her
children were her reason for existence. Their memories of her will be tucked sacredly in their
hearts, as she watches over them from above. As she departs this earth, they now have a
personal guardian angel whose love and protection will cover them forevermore.
A woman of different talents, our beloved enjoying cooking, baking, dancing, and decorating.
She was known particularly for her baking and treat-making abilities where she connected with
recurring customers as they celebrated various milestones of their life. She was known to be
loving and caring, often extending herself to others in their time of need. She always greeted
people with an affectionate smile and maintained close relationships with childhood friends and
family. Many can attest to her warm personality and joyous aura, along with the support she
offered in their moments of joy and despair.

In the year of 2019, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and began treatment using God
strength as her crutch. However, with God’s help and his healing power she was able to
maintain working while caring for herself and her four loving children. As she fought, Nikia often
connected with other cancer patients encouraging them along their journey. They would often
talk for hours providing support and prayer for one another through the difficult journey of
cancer. Friends and family often remarked about how her battle with cancer impacted their lives.
They watched her fight with strength and courage, while keeping her children at the forefront of
her focus. Through her battle, others were touched by her determination to never give up!
People in her community share stories of the encouragement her spirit left, staining their hearts
with beautiful memories which will never be forgotten. With God’s grace, Nikia was able to
overcome her first battle of breast cancer, ringing the infamous bell signaling the completion of
this milestone. Unfortunately, a second bout of cancer returned leaving Nikia at the will of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On April 19, 2023, Nikia quietly exchanged time for eternity as
she was called home to be with The Lord. Though she will be missed dearly by friends and
family alike, we know her influence will remain in the minds and hearts of those she
encountered. We will never forget the radiance of her smile, the joy of her spirit, and the loving
legacy she leaves behind through her four beautiful children.
