Alton Jones was born February 12, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Elnora Jones.
He was the first of two children, one of which preceded him in death; Rayfield Jones.
He attended True Vine Church of Jesus in Miami, Florida. Alton received his education at Dorsey High School and North Dade Senior High of Opa Locka, Florida.
He was in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1961. He began working as a Longshoreman for the Port of Miami in1972, and retired in 1997.
He was called "Foots" and "Big Jones" as nicknames. On October 27th,1976 Alton married the love of his life, Johngerlyn Jones, who he met in high school.
He also performed marriage ceremonies. Alton loved family functions and cooking his favorite foods: collard greens, fish, souse, and many other dishes.
He was the family jokester and always made people laugh. He also enjoyed fishing, football, and college football. His favorite teams were the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat.
On Wednesday, December 28, 2022, God opened his arms, whispered in his ear, and called him home.
Alton leaves to cherish his loving memories, his devoted wife of 46 years: Johngerlyn Jones. Six surviving children:
Mary Jones, Dwayne Flowers (Lashawn), Angela King (John), Vonshella King, Theresa Brown (Tyrone), and James Dixon.
Grandmother: Daisy Jones (deceased); Auntie: Gladys Stewart; Cousins: Geraldine Stewart, Tanisha Stewart;
Sister-in-Law: Warnell Flowers; and a host of Grands, Great-Grands, Nieces and Nephews that he loved dear
