Vernon
Floyd
Sep 18, 1965 — Feb 20, 2025
In Loving Memory of Vernon Floyd Sr. (Poppa Floyd)
Vernon Floyd Sr., affectionately known as Poppa Floyd, left us on February 20, 2024, at the age of 64.
Vernon passed peacefully while sleeping in his home in Miami, FL. Born on September 18, 1965, in
Miami, FL, Vernon was the cherished son of the late Thomas Floyd and Betty Walker.
Education and Career
Vernon's roots were firmly planted in Miami, where he attended Dunbar Elementary, Madison Junior
High School, and Miami Jackson Senior High School, graduating as part of the Class of 1983. He also
furthered his education at Concordia University Wisconsin, where he played football. Vernon dedicated
many years of his life to serving his community through his work at Miami Dade Water & Sewer, where
he became a respected friend and colleague to many.
Passions and Interests
A man of many passions, Vernon was particularly drawn to the world of sports. His love for football was
constant throughout his life, and he enjoyed watching games with his friends and family, sharing in the
excitement and camaraderie that sport brought. Vernon's love for food was equally strong; he was an
avid cook who loved preparing delicious meals and sharing them with those he cared about. Whether it
was a gathering or a quiet moment at home, Vernon's culinary talents were a source of joy. He would
often post his creations on social media, bringing a little taste of his love and warmth to everyone.
Having played football in both high school and college, Vernon's enthusiasm for the sport stayed with
him, whether he was on the field or cheering from the sidelines. His spirit and energy were contagious,
making him a beloved figure among friends and family.
Family and Legacy
Above all, Vernon was a proud father. He cherished his three children—Crystal, Vernon Jr., and Vernae
Floyd—and was always eager to celebrate their accomplishments. His love for his family was evident in
everything he did. He is also survived by his brothers Joseph Hill and Donald Hill, his sister Annette
Green, niece, Anishka Furguson-Bowe and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends who were
touched by his kindness and generosity.
Vernon was predeceased by his parents, his brother Maurice Hill, and his sister Adra Floyd, but he leaves
behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. His warm heart, infectious laugh, and
devotion to those he loved will forever remain in our hearts.
Thank you for joining us in remembering and celebrating the life of Vernon Floyd Sr. (Poppa Floyd). His
memory will live on in each of us, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing
him.
