Steve Owen

Celebrating the Life of Mr. Steve A. Owens


Mr. Steve A. Owens was born on January 1, 1959, in Miami, Florida. He was the seventh of twelve children born to the late Ethel Owens and the late Marvin Owens.


Education


Mr. Owens attended Brownsville Middle School and Miami Jackson Senior High School, where he graduated in 1977. He later attended Florida A&M University (FAMU), where he played football for two years. He continued his education at Miami Dade College, where he earned his Associate of Arts degree.


Church Affiliation


At an early age, he became a member of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ Holiness Pentecostal Church, under the leadership of Pastor Prince Henry Mobley.


Career and Community


Mr. Owens dedicated many years of his life to serving and working with the youth of Miami-Dade County. He began his career as a Juvenile Corrections Officer for Miami-Dade County. He later joined Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he served as a security guard at North Miami Beach Senior High School.


His love for football and young people led him to also serve as a junior varsity football coach. He was affectionately known by many as “Big O.” Through his work, mentorship, and presence, he touched the lives of countless students and athletes. After many years of dedicated service, Mr. Owens retired in 2020.


His Final Rest


On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 4:50 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Mr. Steve A. Owens peacefully answered God’s call and surrendered his life back to the One who gave it. He departed this life peacefully, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love, friendship, and family.


He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ethel Owens and Marvin Owens; three sisters, Barbara Fulton, Carolyn Owens, and Joanne Smith; and two brothers, Alfred Owens and Willie Owens.


Those He Leaves to Cherish His Memory


Mr. Owens leaves to cherish his memory his loving family, including Geraldine Howard (Charles), Sharon Philpot, Antonio Owens, Grace Owens (Bernard), Ray Window (Sheila), and Timothy Owens (Gloria), along with his close and cherished friends, Troy Anderson, Dave Rackley, and Roberto Brown. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews cousins, friends, former students, athletes, and loved ones who will forever treasure his memory.


Though he is no longer with us in body, the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.


Rest peacefully, Big O. Your work here is done, but your legacy will live on forever.
