The Life and Legacy of
Jahquas L. Hunter
Jahqaus Hunter affectionatly known as "Quez", the offspring of Curtis McGill and Lesa Hunter was born in the beautiful city of Miami, Florida and made his earthly entrance on Monday, December 30, 1991 at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He spent most of his childhood/adolescent years with his grandparents, the late George and Rose Hunter. He loved his grandparents dearly who often spoiled him and was known as a child to be very rambunctious, energetic and chatty.
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" Jahquas received his education from Orchard Villa Elementary School, Brownsville Middle School, Allapattah Middle School, Westview Middle School, Miami Jackson Senior School and the great Miami Northwestern Senior High School. As a student Jackson, he was a member of the Touch of Gold Dance team where he made history as the only male dancer on the team. He also trained with Diva Arts Dance Company. In 2010, Jahqaus became a member of the historical Miami Northwestern PAVAC Dance program and the Young Contemporary Dance Theatre. Through these organizations, he was afforded the opportunities to be featured on two nationally and internationally television shows, concerts, parades and performances.
A lover of the Arts, Jahqaus knew the importance of reciprocity through his gift of movement. He found joy is helping others and educating young dancers in the Miami and Atlanta areas. He often spent time training dancers...teaching techniques such as Jazz, Contemporary, Vogue and Danceline. He always left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to experience his craft and presence. His passion for the performing arts opened a plethora of doors for him and he had big dreams of continuing his legacy.
Jahquas was a fighter! He took on life's challenges and punches like a true champion. In the midst of his health concerns, he remained hopeful and full of life. Through it all, there was never a dull moment. He refused to allow his cancer journey to dim his light, no matter how tired he may have been. Sunday, June 16, 2024, Jahquas re-dedicated his life to Christ in the presence of family. On the morning of Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 11:15am, God whispered in Jahquas' ear. At 12:25pm, God knew his child had fought a good fight and was ready to welcome him into his new heavenly home.
Jahquas is survived by Lesa Hunter (mother), Curtis McGill (Father), Reginald Hunter (brother), Raundrea Franks (sister), Melvin Patterson (brother), Curtia McGill (sister), Curtis McGill Jr (brother), Ashley McGill (sister), Jaden McGill (sister), Kasiya McGill (sister), Starlah Earle (special cousin), Roketa Mansfield (cousin), Shirley Harvard (aunt), Linda Harvard (aunt), George Hunter (uncle) and host of nieces, nephews, cousins family and friends.
He joins in heaven George and Rose Hunter (grandparents), Doris Earle (aunt) and William Harvard (uncle).
Let us remember Jahqaus as he was...fierce, talented, fun-loving, bougie and handsome. He will truly be missed.
