Obituary

Reverend Dr. Andrew B. Lane, Sr. was born on December 5, 1944, in Fort Gaines,

Georgia, to the late Abraham Lane and Ella Mae Barnes. From humble beginnings, his

life blossomed into a powerful testimony of faith, leadership, and unwavering devotion to God and family.

He received his early education in the Georgia public school system before relocating to Miami, Florida. It

was there that he met his first wife and the love of his life, Beverly Ann Lane. From their 25-year union, they

were blessed with six children: Wanda, Andrew Jr., Ella, Lamar, Eli, and Abraham. He later welcomed his

seventh child, Darrell. Throughout his life, Reverend Dr. Lane emphasized to his children the importance

of maintaining a strong relationship with God and the significance of prayer within the family. These core

values were instilled in them and continue to influence and guide future generations. In his later years, he

shared his life with his devoted wife, Rose Morgan-Lane, who stood faithfully by his side in love and

partnership.

Reverend Dr. Lane built a life defined by both service and entrepreneurship. His professional career

included dedicated service with Jackson Memorial Hospital and the City of Miami, from which he retired

after many years of commitment. In addition to his public service, he pursued several entrepreneurial

ventures, reflecting his independence, vision, and determination. He furthered his education by earning

both his Master’s and Doctorate degrees.

At the core of his life was his calling to ministry. Having given his life to Christ at a young age, Reverend

Dr. Lane knew he was chosen to serve. He faithfully answered that call as the Founding Pastor of African

Universal Church, where he presided for 42 years. His ministry was marked by powerful preaching,

unwavering spiritual conviction, and a deep passion for spreading the Gospel. God was the center of his

life and the source of his joy; something he made unmistakably clear in every conversation. His voice of

faith will forever echo through the lives he touched.

Reverend Dr. Lane also proudly served as a Mason, holding leadership roles as

Chaplain of Emerald Lodge #457, Worthy Patron of OES Emerald Lodge #91, and

Worthy Joshua of Heroines of Jericho, Dorothy L Coleman Court #212, organizations

grounded in strong moral principles and brotherhood. His commitment spanned

decades, and he remained a loyal and active member until his passing.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, April 23, 2026, Reverend Dr. Andrew B. Lane, Sr. answered the call

and transitioned to his eternal home. He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his leadership, his

wisdom, and the love he poured into his family and community. His legacy is not only in what he built, but in

the lives he transformed. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that he has received

his eternal reward. As he would often say with conviction: “Am I right about it?” He was preceded in death

by his parents, Abraham Lane and Ella Mae Barnes; his first wife, Beverly Ann Lane; his siblings, Abraham

Lane Jr., Idus “Earl” Lane, William Lane, Odell Lane, and Mayshack Lane; and his beloved grandchildren,

Geneva Lane and Jericho Terry.

He leaves to cherish his legacy and memory: his loving wife, Rose Morgan-Lane; his children, Wanda Francis,

Andrew B. Lane Jr. (Erica Lane), Ella Terry; Lamar Lane Sr. (Charlene Seymour Lane), Eli Lane (Tawanda

Hawkins), Abraham Lane, and Darrell Lane; his siblings, Vertel Wilburn, Mamie P. Lane, Ollie R. Lane, Priscilla
